What an influencer campaign costs: the factors that matter

We do not publish a price list, and you should be wary of anyone who offers a single number without questions. This article explains what moves the cost so you can plan a budget with your eyes open.

The budget has four layers

Most quotes mix these layers, which makes comparison hard. Ask for them separately.

Creator fees
Set by each creator for the content and rights you want.
Production
Any filming, editing or props beyond what the creator does themselves.
Agency management
Selection, briefing, coordination and reporting time.
Extras
Usage rights, product samples, shipping, paid promotion of the content.

What pushes creator fees up or down

There is no standard rate card.

  • Audience size and, more importantly, how engaged and relevant it is for you
  • Content format and the effort involved
  • Exclusivity: asking a creator not to work with competitors
  • Usage rights: whether you may reuse the content in your own ads
  • Timing: peak seasons are busier
  • Number of posts and revisions

How to set a sensible budget

Work backwards from what you need to learn or achieve.

  • Write the single objective: awareness, traffic or a launch moment
  • Decide how many creators you can manage well, since quality drops when attention is spread thin
  • Reserve a share for reporting and for a second round if the first teaches you something
  • Leave room for product samples and shipping if your item needs to be handled

Where money is commonly wasted

These are patterns, not rules.

  • Paying for reach you cannot measure and then judging on it
  • Briefing late, causing rushed content and extra revisions
  • Choosing on follower count and ignoring audience fit
  • No tracking link, so clicks cannot be told from background traffic
  • Spreading a small budget across too many creators to learn anything

A short checklist before you ask for quotes

Bring these to any agency conversation.

  • Objective and dates
  • Target customer in a sentence
  • Platforms you can support
  • Approximate budget range you are considering, or a statement that it is undecided
  • How you will measure the outcome

Questions buyers ask

Can I get an exact cost from an article?

No. Cost depends on your campaign, and any honest figure comes after a conversation about your needs.

Is a smaller budget pointless?

Not if the aim is modest and clear. A small, well-tracked test is often more useful than a diffuse large one.

Who sets creator fees?

Creators set their fees. An agency should show them separately from its own fee.
